Moy Castle, Lochbuie

Stone Circle

Lochbuie, Isle of Mull

Map ref: NM 617251

On the flat ground approx 400m north of Moy castle is Lochbuie stone circle and associated standing stones.

This is best approached from the bridge 600m before the phone box at the start of Lochbuie village. There is parking space here and after passing through the field gate the path to the circle is marked by white painted stones - the track can be wet!!.

The circle originally comprised nine stones on a diameter of 12.3m. only eight remain standing but the missing stone is marked by a low boulder. The heights of the stones range between 1.2 and 1.75m.

There are two standing stones outside the circle. The nearest, is 4.6m outside the circle to the south east, and the second, 3m high is 38m to the south west.

Other stones 107m to the south west and 360m to the north north west are probably also associated with the circle
